Lizzo Hit With Second Plagiarism Allegation Over Hit Song ‘Truth Hurts’

Lizzo is facing another plagiarism allegation over her hit song, “Truth Hurts,” which recently was at No. 1 for six weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Producer and songwriter Justin Raisen is the second person to claim the singer is unfairly taking credit for its opening line. In an Instagram post, Raisen claimed that he and his brother, Jeremiah Raisen, were part of a collaborative studio session with Lizzo and fellow songwriters Jesse Saint John and Yves Rothman, which took place in April 2017.  Justin Raisen says that the resulting song, “Healthy,” used the lyric, “I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m 100% that ****,” the famous first words of “Truth Hurts.”   Raisen alleged that he and his colleagues “were never contacted about being credited” and that, despite their requests for 5% of the profits from “Truth Hurts,” they “were shutdown every time.”

These latest allegations comes after Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, was accused in February 2018 of stealing the lyric from British singer Mina Lioness, who claims to have tweeted it first. Jefferson said the line was inspired by an Instagram meme that stated, “I’m 100% that bitch,” and that she credits the post when discussing the song.

Cincinnati Bengals Fall To 0-7 Record After 27-17 Loss To Jacksonville Jaguars

Jaguars Gardner Minshew led a fourth-quarter touchdown drive, putting Jacksonville ahead on Sunday to clinch a 27-17 victory over the winless Cincinnati Bengals.

The Jaguars (3-4) managed only field goals by Josh Lambo until their rookie quarterback made game-turning plays at the end. The win capped a week in which the Jaguars traded disgruntled cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams for three draft picks.

The Bengals loss is especially tough for first-year coach Zac Taylor, whose team fell to 0-7 for the first time in 11 years.

Juul To Stop Selling Several Flavored Products In The U.S.

Juul Labs, a leading e-cigarette company, announced on Thursday that they will stop selling several flavored products in the United States. Only tobacco, mint and menthol flavors will remain for sale. Juul’s mango, creme, fruit and cucumber flavors have already been removed from the online store, the only place the company sold these products directly to 21-and-up consumers in the United States. It had pulled them from retail locations late last year. However, these flavored pods will continue to be sold abroad.

Juul’s new CEO, K.C. Crosthwaite, said: “We must reset the vapor category by earning the trust of society and working cooperatively with regulators, policymakers, and stakeholders to combat underage use while providing an alternative to adult smokers.”

This latest move comes after the Trump Administration announced the US Food and Drug Administration would issue guidance that would remove flavors from the market, including mint and menthol.
