New York Jets pass rusher Jermaine Johnson was carted off the field with a potentially severe injury to his right Achilles tendon in the third quarter of their game against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium on Sunday. Johnson will have an MRI exam on Monday.

Johnson was injured while trying to chase down Titans quarterback Will Levis, who started scrambling up the middle for a 21-yard gain. After Johnson went down in what appeared to be a non-contact injury with 4:22 left in the third, a cart immediately came out while his teammates gathered around him. The Jets announced after Johnson was taken to the locker room that he’d hurt his Achilles, and would not return.

After the game, Johnson spoke to reporters: “I thought somebody stepped on me. Then I looked at the replay and nobody stepped on it, and I was like, ‘Damn.’ But, man, I’m in positive spirits. I got my crying out on the field a little bit. I’m probably going to get a little more crying in tonight. But after that, you know, 24-hour or 48-hour mourning rule for me and we’ll be back to work.”

The Jets started this game with cornerback D.J. Reed inactive, and linebacker C.J. Mosley alsonleft with the game in the second quarter with a toe injury on his right foot.

The Jets went on to win 24-17 over the Tennessee Titans in Sunday’s game.
