The defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers continued their dominance of the Chicago Cubs with a 6-3 win on Wednesday of their two-game, season-opening series at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, giving the Dodgers the sweep.
Reigning National League MVP Shohei Ohtani, 30, hit his first solo home run of the year before the sellout crowd, reaching base five times and scoring three runs; with Kiké Hernández hitting a two-run homer, and Tommy Edman adding a solo shot. The game also featured 23-year-old right-hander Rōki Sasaki making his MLB debut on the mound in his home country, who gave up one run and one hit while striking out three, but also walked five batters, including a free pass that forced in a run. Landon Knack (1-0) got the win, pitching two scoreless innings of relief.
Both teams will return to the United States and get ready for opening day in the U.S. on March 27.
