The Atlanta Falcons announced that defensive tackle Eddie Goldman informed the team on Tuesday that he is retiring. The announcement comes just 13 days after Atlanta signed Goldman in free agency to a one-year deal.  The deal included guaranteed money; however, Goldman’s retirement will probably will void that.

The 28-year-old Goldman is a former second-round pick of the Bears back in 2015. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $5.686 million contract when he agreed to a four-year contract extension with Chicago worth over $42 million, which included $25 million guaranteed.

Goldman opted out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, he tallied 22 total tackles and 0.5 sacks in 14 games before the Bears released him in March; he then signed with Atlanta on July 6.
