The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Boston Bruins 5-1 on Monday, winning Game 1 of the first-round playoff series at home.

Seth Jarvis and Nino Niederreiter scored second-period goals for the Hurricanes, and Antti Raanta had 35 saves in his first career postseason start, with goaltender Frederik Andersen sidelined by injury. Teuvo Teravainen and Vincent Trocheck added third-period goals, which helped Carolina maintain the lead in this best-of-seven series opener.

Game 2 between the Hurricanes and Bruins will be held on Wednesday, May 4th at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.
